Recommended Hardware Requirements
Architecture
- I would stick with at least the minimum requirements for this category.
Processing Power
- I suggest a modern day CPU over 3 GHz with at least a couple of cores, should be easy to find.
Memory
- I would suggest 4 GB or more for the Desktop Experience, add more for each application requirements and number of users.
Secondary Storage
- This is going to be mostly situational. Specifically for a file server, you need to keep ahead of storage usage periodically to keep users happy.
Display Adapter
- If you are using an application that requires Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) usage, then I would be looking for a good graphics card, otherwise, minimum will due without too much trouble.
Peripherals
These are application specific to what you are trying to accomplish.
Minimum Hardware Requirements
Architecture
- Compatible with the x64 instruction set
- Supports NX and DEP
- Supports CMPXCHG16b, LAHF/SAHF, and PrefetchW
- Supports Second Level Address Translation (EPT or NPT)
Processing Power
- 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor
Memory
- 512 MB (2 GB for Server with Desktop Experience installation option)
- ECC (Error Correcting Code) type or similar technology, for physical host deployments
Secondary Storage
- One or more storage adapter that is compliant with the PCI Express architecture specification
- Hard disk drives must not be PATA
- Windows Server does not allow ATA/PATA/IDE/EIDE for boot, page, or data drives
Display Adapter
- Graphics device and monitor capable of Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher-resolution
Peripherals
- DVD drive (if you intend to install the operating system from DVD media)
