Ticket #4

Client stated that she wanted her old printer running.

I picked up the HP Color Laserjet Pro 4600 printer from her business inventory, had some minor cosmetic issues.

After a few days I examined the printer for any sort of ports to use to interface with her Windows 11 PC.

Found a Parallel Port, purchased a cable online to use. No luck, should’ve paid more attention to the frequent returns warning on Amazon.

Found some official HP documentation online, stating the part numbers and some manufacturer numbers for interface cards.

Bought a Ethernet card for it, can’t remember the exact part number, it fit, the web server on it worked after installing a ethernet patch cable between the PC and the printer adapter card.

Set IP addresses and gateway addresses and the fairly normal network configuration things, after a bit of Google searches online found that there’s a HP UPD (universal print driver) software that might be the answer.

Installed the HP UPD on the Windows 11 PC, everything was up and running after changing the configuration from Postscript to PCL.

After a few testing attempts, I noticed that the laser printer device has lines, jams occasionally and prints a bit sideways out of orientation.

The solution I believe to most of those problems is usually a printer maintenance kit. So, I’ll have to look for a compatible one online that meets or exceeds the needs of the problem and hopefully it will run like new.

// I’ll have to rewrite this ticket later for clarity, lately I’ve been busy.
